The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is one of the 17 specialized agencies of the United Nations for the promotion of Intellectual Property Rights throughout the world.

WIPO through its Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TlSC) program aims to provide innovators in developing countries with access to locally based, high quality technology information and related services, helping them to exploit their innovative potential and to create, protect, and manage their intellectual property (IP) rights.

Till date, WIPO has established 638 TISC Centers worldwide. So far in India there are 6 and GTU will be seventh in the line as approved by CIPAM-DPIIT. GTU is the first university in Gujarat to set up Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC).

“GTU is aggressively working in the area of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) by means of large scale awareness and promotion programmes for the academia and Industry since 2011. GTU has introduced many innovative practices like Patent Search and Analysis Report (PSAR) Activity, Patent Drafting Exercise (PDE), Patent Clinic Programme, 150 IP Programmes in a year initiative, Specialised IPR courses for professionals, Providing financial support for Patent Filing under SSIP Scheme of Govt of Gujarat, Providing free access of paid patent database to students, faculty and start-up etc, because of which today GTU is one of the largest IP Literate University in India. In such a time, decision of GoI via CIPAM-DPIIT for setting up a Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) at Gujarat’s First University i.e. at Gujarat Technological University is a very positive step, and which acknowledges the hard efforts made by the university for the promotion of IPR in academia, Industry and Society. The newly set up TISC at GTU will play a key role not only for academia but also for Industry and will offer various services like as: Patents and Information related services: Thematic search, Technology watch, Technological trends, Patent map, Freedom to exploit/patent validity, Bibliographical search, Statistics search, Patent validity, Prior art search, Patent infringement And Assistance and guidance services, will provide and promote free to use technologies for the benefits of Industry. This will help in a great way for better Industry academia partnership and help to industry for increasing their innovation-based growth.”
